World Cycling Championships 2025: Route ITT - men

World Championships TTSunday 21, September - The men’s individual time trial is a 40.6-kilometre challenge with an elevation gain of 680 metres. The route includes four climbs, and the finish is also uphill.

After a gently rolling opening phase of nearly 10 kilometres, the Côte de Nyanza presents the first uphill challenge. It’s a 2.5-kilometre climb with an average gradient of 5.8%. Upon cresting, the riders descend towards the Nyabarongo River. Before reaching it, they make a U-turn and return to the city via the same climb. Tackling the Côte de Nyanza from the southern side involves a 6.6-kilometre ascent with an average gradient of 3.5%.

The riders then descend on the same road they previously climbed. Back in Kigali, they turn left and head towards the Côte de Péage, a 2.2-kilometre climb at 6%. From the summit, they descend to the foot of the Côte de Kimihurara, a cobbled climb of 1.3 kilometres with an average gradient of 6.3%.

Once at the top, the road levels out for a few hundred metres before rising again at over 4% in the final 900 metres to the finish line.

Remco Evenepoel is the reigning champion. Last year, he edged out Filippo Ganna by 8 seconds, and two year ago he also game out on top, also by outperforming Ganna. In 2023, the Italian finished 12 seconds behind Evenepoel.

The first rider sets off at 13:25, and the last rider is expected to finish at 16:30 – both are local times.
