Race report
The peloton splits when the Dutch riders accelerate on the first climb, Norwood Edge, but it comes together.
Van Vleuten goes alone on the Lofthouse climb. The peloton shatters behind her. When she crests the summit the Giro Rosa winner is 1 minute ahead of Koppenburg, Spratt, Longo Borghini, Paladin, Ludwig Uttrup, Dygert, Van der Breggen and Deignan. Still 100 kilometres left to race.
Van Vleuten crosses the line for the first time with a lead of 2.37 minutes, while the peloton is chasing at 4 minutes.
A little later Dygert accelerates. Spratt, Van der Breggen and Longo Borghini join her at first, but the American is gone when she jumps again. She moves through the finish 1.47 minutes after Van Vleuten.
Van Vleuten widens the gap to more than 2 minutes in the penultimate lap. Van der Breggen and Spratt drop Longo Borghini before they bring back Dygert in the last lap. The duo leaves the ITT champion behind, while the former World Champion shakes off the Australian on the last climb of the day.
Van Vleuten brings her heroic solo home, 2.15 minutes ahead of Van der Breggen with Spratt another 13 seconds further in arrears.
