World Cycling Championships 2017 Bergen, Norway: Favourites TTT – men
Since trade teams compete the TTT at the Worlds there are two teams who tower above the rest. BMC took the title twice in 2014 and 2015, while QuickStep won the race in 2012, 2013 and 2016. Who are the favourites to win the team time trial at the 2017 World Cycling Championships in Bergen?
In 2017, BMC Racing Team has been by far the most successful squad in team time trials. The Rohan Dennis led brigade took all TTT in the World Tour: La Vuelta, the Volta a Catalunya (albeit, after Movistar had been penalised for pushing) and the Tirreno-Adriatico.
BMC’s plus is that the big engines behind the wins in 2014 and 2015, Van Garderen and Dennis, are still with the squad. Moreover, young gun Stefan Küng, is starting to reach his full potential, while QuickStep lost Tony Martin to Katusha.
It will be interesting to watch Team Sunweb, possibly a new TTT-force to be reckoned with. In La Vuelta the squad finished in the same time as QuickStep in second place, only 6 seconds down on winner BMC. And their strongest man, Tom Dumoulin, wasn’t competing the Spanish Grand Tour….
