Race report
Once the flag is dropped Eri Yonamine goes on the attack. The Japanese rider races to an advantage at half a minute and she holds on to it for dozens of kilometres. Then Nicole Hanselmann from Switzerland joins her, yet, the two are reeled in with 70 kms remaining.
The Dutch squad launches a series of attacks, obviously aiming to make the race as hard as possible.
With 40 kms to go World Champion time trialing Amber Neben attacks to race to a gap at over 40 seconds. Yet, with one lap (at 15.2 kms) left her story is over.
The race boils down to a bunch sprint with 20-year old Amalie Dideriksen outsprinting top-favourite Kirsten Wild. Lotta Lepistö finished in third, while Lizzie Armitstead performs well with a fourth place.
Dideriksen won the world junior road race world championship in 2013 and 2014, as early as 2016 she’s in the rainbow jersey for elite women. Impressive!
