World Cycling Championships 2014 Ponferrada: Sprint victory 22-yo Ferrand Prévot

The women are to take the 18.2 kilometres WK-circuit seven times, and only 4 kilometres are completely flat. The race explodes in the final 5 kilometres with Johansson, Vos, Longo Borghini and Armitstead attacking at the closing climb, but eventually a group of ten chasers brings them back. The sprint finish is that close a photo finish is needed to decide on the 2015 World Champion. 22-Year old Pauline Ferrand Prévot from France is in the rainbow jersey coming year, Lisa Brennauer takes silver, whilst Emma Johansson wins the bronze medal.

World Cycling Championships 2014 Ponferrada: Bradley Wiggins dethrones Tony Martin

The indivual time trial in Ponferrada takes place on a 47.1 kilometres route. The first 30 kilometres are flat and the remainder goes up and down. Bradley Wiggins is rewarded for a brilliant race build-up and bests reigning and top-favourite World Champion Tony Martin. Young Tom Dumoulin takes the bronze medal.

The World Championships Team Time Trial is a battle on a 57.1 kilometres route. Title holder Omega Pharma-Quick Step and BMC are both strong, with Sky and Orica GreenEdge close. But eventually BMC outpowers the other teams and takes the win.

Sunday, September 21 – The 2014 TTT World Championships are on a 57.1 kilometres course in the surroundings of Ponferrada. Omega Pharma-Quick Step is the reigning champion, winning two times in a row. Edition 2012 saw them win with a 3 seconds gain over Sky and last year it was even tighter with 1 second over Orica GreenEdge. Are they heading for the triple?
