Race report
Still no break in the approach of the first climb, and then Lourdes Oyarbide gives it a dig. She opens up a 30 seconds lead before she is caught with 13 kilometres left to climb. An attack by Antonia Niedermaier and Grace Brown in the last kilometres is neutralised by Marlen Reusser.

Karlijn Swinkels cements her KOM lead at the summit.

A group with Demi Vollering and Marianne Vos distances the peloton in the descent of the Alto del Monasterio de San Juan de la Peña. A regroupment takes place in the valley. Following several moves, Karlijn Swinkels attacks. She opens up a 20 seconds lead, but is caught early in the finishing climb.

Red jersey Marianne Vos drops down with 2.6 kilometres left to climb. While Demi Vollering keeps on pushing at the front, Kasia Niewiadoma is the first GC favorite to lose contact. But she is definitely not the last. Vollering drops them all until Elisa Longo Borghini and Yara Kastelijn are the last two riders who go overboard in the final kilometre.

Stage win and leader’s jersey for the Tour de France Champion!
