Following two hills the riders move through finishing venue Laredo after 21 kilometres. On the flat the route continues to the base of the Alto de Fuente de las Baras. Which is a 6.4 kilometres climb with an average gradient of 5.4%.
The riders fly down to a couple of kilometres on the flat before Puerto de Campo el Hayal is a similar test, yet slightly longer – 8.2 kilometres at 4.6%. The ensuing descent leads to a flat finale of some 15 kilometres around the beautiful Santoña Bay.
Laredo is situated 52 kilometres west of Bilbao, host of the Grand Départ of the coming Tour de France.
The intermediate sprint comes with time bonuses of 6, 4 and 2 seconds, while the first three riders on the line gain 10, 6 and 4 seconds.
