The Puerto de San Miguel de las Salinas climb is a long drag, but it’s not very steep. Actually, one could argue that it’s a series of rolling hills with short descents in between. The steepest kilometre goes up at 6%.
The Puerto de San Miguel de las Salinas is the only climb of the day. The rest of the route is flat. So one would think that sprinters should be able to survive the climb.
Last year’s Vuelta for women saw only one bunch sprint. On the Madrid circuit it was Elisa Balsamo who outperformed Lotte Kopecky and Marta Bastianelli.
The intermediate sprint comes with time bonuses of 6, 4 and 2 seconds, while the first three riders on the line gain 10, 6 and 4 seconds.
