Raceverslag
Xabier Isasa forms a 1-man breakaway. He extends his lead to over 8 minutes before the peloton takes the reins. The solo rider is caught as the riders move through Córdoba for the first time.
The pace is high on the Alto del 14%. A group of some 30 riders reach the summit, where Primoz Roglic wins the sprint for time bonuses ahead of Sepp Kuss and Richard Carapaz. Moments later, Kaden Groves goes down while trying to regain contact with the first group.
Marc Soler attacks on the plateau after the summit and he comes down the mountain with a 20 seconds lead. Wout van Aert then opens the chase, but he is caught with 9 kilometres to go. Soler’s lead has been halved by then.
Sepp Kuss closes the gap with 3.5 kilometres to go, putting Wout van Aert in the perfect spot. Pavel Sivakov has a go with a late attack, but it fizzles out after the flamme rouge. Van Aert then powers to a commanding victory.
Ben O’Connor keeps the red jersey with a solid lead, though Primoz Roglic closes in a bit thanks to the 6 bonus seconds.
