Race report
Two men jump away from the gun. Ander Okamika and Luis Angel Maté quickly open a gap of almost 4 minutes before the peloton takes control. The two attackers are reeled in with 14 kilometres to go.
The uneventful race explodes in a dramatic finale. Roglic strikes inside the last 3 kilometres. Moments later Evenepoel punctures. Pedersen, Ackermann, Van Poppel and Wright jump to Roglic’ wheel and the Slovene powers on. The sprinters overtake him when they enter the home straight. Roglic wants to continue in their slipstream and at that moment he crashes hard. Meanwhile, Pedersen sprints to a commanding victory.
Roglic crosses the line bleeding and is given the same time as his fellow attackers, while Evenepoel is given the time of the peloton, as he punctured inside the last 3 kilometres.
