Race report
A hard battle for the break leads to a solo by Jésus Ezquerra. The Spaniard jumps clear at km 10 and when he leads the peloton by 2 minutes Tiago Machado goes after him to join him. The two put almost 5 minutes into the peloton.
BORA-hansgrohe sets the pace on the Alto de Fermoselle and the leaders are gobbled up. Next up is Diego Rubio, who goes solo with 20 kms remaining. The 27-year old Spaniard is brought back 9 kms before the line.
A late attack by Lukas Pöstlberger is neutralised with 500 metres out. In the ensuing sprint Elia Viviani finishes a good job by his lead-out and he outsprints Peter Sagan and Giacomo Nizzolo. Simon Yates retains the GC leader.
