Vuelta 2015 Favourites stage 14: Aru to glory on perfect closing climb

Fabio AruStage 14 is a 215 kilometres toil concluded with a 18 kilometres closing climb, that is getting steeper and steeper along the way. Expect the GC guys to cross swords in one of the most prestigious stages of the 2015 Vuelta. (Slideshow route/profile)

Fuente del Chivo is an 18 kilometres climb at 5.5%. But that’s merely an average number, actually saying nothing as the first kilometres are at 1.2% to 3,5% grades, while the last kilometres go up at 8.9%. After his second place in the Giro Fabio Aru is super-ambitious to do better in La Vuelta, which he underlined by taking the red jersey in Andorra’s Queen Stage on wednesday. Landa won that race, while ‘Purito’ Rodríguez climbed to second place overall.

Last year, Aru won two stages in Spain.
