Vuelta 2014 Route stage 4: Mairena del Alcor – Córdoba
Tuesday, August 26 - In 173.4 kilometres stage 4 takes the riders from Mairena Del Alcor to Córdoba. Two categorized climbs, apart from that the route is flat.
Departure town Mairena del Alcor is located at about ten kilometres from the city of Seville. The riders head east on the plains. The first hurdle awaits them at a little less than 120 kilometres from the start. Alto de San Jéronimo is a 3rd category col with the summit at 440 meter above sea level.
Arrival town Córdoba is visited twice. The first occasion is when the riders are 135 kilometres in the saddle. Immediately upon leaving the city limits the ascent to Alto del Catorce por ciento (590 meter) starts. This is a 2nd category climb and – it’s all in the name – there are some parts with 14% climbing. The top is 26 kilometres from the finish.
After descending the final 10 kilometres are mostly flat. The last 2 kilometres could however be a bit tricky for some sprinters, this final part of the stage goes slightly uphill (1,3 %).
