Volta ao Algarve 2025 Route stage 3: Vila Real de Santo António - Tavira

Friday, 21 February – The third stage of the Volta ao Algarve is one for the sprinters. Over a 184.5-kilometre route, the riders tackle only 1,500 metres of climbing, before a completely flat finale.

Wout van Aert has fond memories of Tavira — he won the sprint here last year. Two years ago, it was Magnus Cort who celebrated after a sprint finish.

Chances are, we’ll see another fast finishers showdown in the town near the Spanish border.

The route isn’t particularly challenging. Plenty of rolling roads, with two opportunities to pick up mountain points — first on a 6.2-kilometre climb at 4.4%, then later on a 4.4-kilometre ascent at 3.2%.

That last climb tops out just under 45 kilometres from the finish. After the descent, the road is as flat as a pancake.

Tavira may be close to the Spanish border, but the stage actually starts in Vila Real de Santo António, right on top of it. The riders will pass through the start venue again in the pre-finale for an intermediate sprint.
