Race report
On the long first climb KOM leader De Gendt attacks and Maximilian Schachmann bridges across. Yet, Bert-Jan Lindeman is the first rider at the summit ahead of Tejay van Garderen and Andrey Amador. De Gendt comes fourth at 18 seconds.
Van Garderen and Schachmann push on in the descent, while Lindeman and Amador rejoin them after a long chase. The four attackers open up a gap of more than 3 minutes, while it has fallen to 1 minute with 14 kilometres remaining before Schachmann goes solo.
The German holds off the charging peloton and wins the race 13 seconds ahead of Michael Matthews and Ryan Gibbons.
