Race report
Mathias Frank is the first attacker, while Giacomo Nizzolo joins him a little later. The European Champion drops his efforts though and Frank pushes on alone to open up a 3 minutes gap.

Thomas De Gendt initiates a chase with 115 kilometres remaining. Alexey Lutsenko, Larry Warbasse, Roger Kluge, Alex Dowsett, Kevin Colleoni, Omer Goldstein and Lasse Norman Hansen join the Flemish attacker, and they track down Frank. The leaders carve out a maximum advantage of 4 minutes.

The lead of the nine has fallen to 2 minutes when they enter the Jebel Jais. Shortly, Lutsenko is the only attacker left at the front, but his lead comes tumbling down when the peloton accelerates in the last 4 kilometres.

Vincenzo Nibali goes after the Kazach with 3 kilometres left, but he can’t get across. It is Jonas Vingegaard who makes the catch inside the last kilometre.

The 24-year old Dane claims the win 3 seconds ahead race leader Tadej Pogacar and Adam Yates.

With two flat stages remaining, Pogacar is set to win the 2021 UAE Tour.
