Tour of Valencia 2020: The Route
The Tour of Valencia kicks into gear on Wednesday 5 February to finish the following Sunday. The battle for the GC is likely to come down to stages 2 and 4, while the other races are suited for fast finishers. Featuring 2,884 vertical metres and a steep finish climb, the Queen Stage is played out on the fourth day of action.
The race begins with a chance for fast men though. The 1st stage is 180 kilometres long and serves 1,146 vertical metres. The finale is flat.
Stage 2 serves a lumpy opening before the route evens out towards the end. The final 3.1 kilometres are something else entirely though. First 2 kilometres at more than 10%, after which a rolling section runs onto the steep last 150 metres, even containing a ramp at 21% just before the line.
On the third day the Tour of Valencia goes back to the sprinters. Stage 3 amounts to 175 kilometres and the elevation gain is 826 metres.
The Queen Stage serves three intermediate ascents before the brutal finish climb kicks in. Starting in Altea, the ascent is 5.3 kilometres long and the average gradient sits at 11.2%.
The Tour of Valencia’s final stage is familiar. Starting in Paterna, the route runs onto a finish circuit in the streets of Valencia. Last year, Dylan Groenewegen took the spoils ahead of Alexander Kristoff and Matteo Trentin.
