Tour of the Basque Country 2016 Route stage 3: Vitoria-Gasteiz - Lesaka
Tuesday, April 5, 2016 – Stage 3 in the Tour of the Basque Country leads from Vitoria-Gasteiz to Lesaka. In 193.5 kilometres the riders are to crest five mountains, while the last peak is situated at 9 kilometres from the finish line.
One could almost argue Vitoria-Gasteiz is the Basque equivalent for bike racing. The lat four years, the Tour of the Basque Country arrived in the capital city of the Basque Autonomous Community (victories by Daryl Impey (twice), Michael Matthews and Fabio Felline), while last year the Vuelta left from Vitoria for a stage to Fuente del Chivo (victory Alessandro De Marchi)
The first half of stage 3 in the 2016 Tour of the Basque Country is on rolling roads before in short succession the climbs up the Uitzi and the Usategieta shake up the route. Following a long descent the real sting is in the tail. To be more precise: from kilometre 150 onwards.
After two non-categorized warm-ups it is within a span of around 25 kilometres the men are to brave the Aritxulegi, the Agiña and the Alto de la Piedad. The finish line is 9.1 kilometres after cresting the last peak.
