Tour of the Alps 2025: Epic solo win earns Arensman leader’s jersey

Race report
After around ten kilometres, Emanuel Zangerle, Lennart Jasch, Felix Engelhardt, Kim Heiduk, Geoffrey Bouchard and Andrea Pietrobon join forces. The six riders work together to open up a gap of 4 minutes.

As the peloton ramps up the pace on the Passo di Sant’Antonio, the breakaway’s days are numbered. A select group takes control, and it’s from this group that Thymen Arensman launches an attack. The Dutchman opens up a 4-minute lead over the peloton.

On the Anras Oberried, Arensman crests the summit 1 minute ahead of first chaser, Derek Gee. Further down the climb, GC leader Michael Storer has said goodbye to the remains of the peloton, and he reaches the top 2 minutes later.

Gee closes to within 30 seconds of Arensman on the Tessenberg, while Storer reaches the summit 2 minutes behind the Dutchman. On the final ascent, Gee’s deficit has doubled, while Storer has cut his gap to just over a minute.

In the last 7 kilometres, the soloist extends his lead over the chasers a little, and with that effort, he secures the leader’s jersey. Gee finishes second, and Storer third. That’s also the top 3 in the overall standings, although the Australian sits in second and the Canadian in third.
