Race report
The break of the day features no fewer than twenty riders, with standout names including Lennard Kämna, Alessandro De Marchi, Michael Valgren, Marco Frigo, Finlay Pickering, Frederik Wandahl and Andrew August. Their advantage never stretches beyond two minutes.
That doesn’t sit well with Frigo, who decides to go solo. On his own, he stretches the lead to more than 2 minutes, while he reaches the summit of the Passo Furcia one and a half minute ahead of his former companions.
As the riders enter the final climb of the day, Pickering, Wandahl and August are the only chasers left, but they’re already 2 minutes adrift. The peloton trails the solo leader by 4 minutes at that point.
On the climb, Matthew Riccitello bridges across to the chasers, and distances them. Frigo’s lead melts away rapidly, but he manages to hold on for the win. Jai Hindley outsprints Derek Gee for second place, while Michael Storer retains the overall lead.
