Knowledge Oasis is a technology park near Muscat International Airport. Leaving at sea level, the riders head for Al Tuwyyah at an elevation of 500 metres. Basically an endless false flat, the climb is around 70 kilometres. Rolling roads take the riders to the foot of the closing climb.
And a closing climbs it is… Peaking at 1.435 metres, the Green Mountain climb is nothing short of a monster. Introducing itself properly, the first 300 metres go up at an average grade of around 20%. Horrified? Actually, the inclination doesn’t drop too much as per kilometre the average grades of the climb from bottom to top are… 11.4%, 12.8%, 5.5%, 11.9%, 12.4% and 11.9%. Think you made it? Forget it. The final kilometre is at 13%!
Time bonuses of 10, 6 and 4 seconds are to be gained at the finish line.
