The village of As Sifa is located by the Gulf of Oman, overlooked by the mountain Djebel Abu Da’ud. The bunch start out with a pleasant ride north along the coast. There are two hills in today’s stage, that of of Al Jissah (164 meter) with 115.5 kms to go and the climb of Bousher Alamrat (riders will be sick of this one after numerous ascents on stage 4!) at 75 kms before the end of the stage and the end of the 2014 Tour of Oman. The location of the climbs suggest they won’t have any major impact for GC riders.
The remainder of the race will be spent with the sprinters teams ensuring any breaks are caught and setting up a final showdown in the Middle East for 2014 which, as per usual, will take place on the promenade in Matrah. Last year, FDJ’s Nacer Bouhanni was the fastest, beating Matthew Goss and Taylor Phinney.
The stage starts at 12:30 GST and the finish is scheduled at 16:10.
