There were numerous breakaway attempts today, with an early break featuring yesterday’s escapee Greg Van Avermaet and Irishman Nicholas Roche caught before the first intermediate sprint. Another group of three formed with Michael Hepburn, Alessandro Bazzana and Christopher Juul Jenson getting away.
The trio were never let off the peloton’s leash however. The gap hovered at around a minute until Lotto-Belisol made the catch in the final kilometre to set up Greipel for this third stage win in this year’s Tour of Oman, finishing ahead of up and coming sprinters Nacer Bouhanni and Sam Bennett.
