Race report
Three riders join forces shortly after the start. Tobias Bayer, Giulio Masotto, and Connor Swift open a 25 seconds lead, but they are caught on the first climb of the day.

Wilco Kelderman and Rémy Rochas go on the counter-attack. Axel Laurance, Matej Mohoric, Brandon Smith Rivera, Julien Bernard, and Martijn Tusveld track them down before the second climb, while Einer Rubio, Eddie Dunbar, Matteo Fabbro, Harold Martín López, Antonio Tiberi, and Daniel Felipe Martínez join the attackers on the climb itself. Rivera Smith can’t follow the pace, and he winds up in a chase group featuring Xandro Meurisse, Damiano Caruso, Bastien Tronchon, Rudy Molard, Thymen Arensman, Gregor Mühlberger, Mauri Vansevenant, Kevin Vermaerke, Tiesj Benoot, and Anders Halland Johannessen.

Tiberi can’t follow the pace with 150 kilometres remaining. The other attackers put almost 5 minutes into the peloton.

The lead group reaches the base of Colma di Sormano 1 minute ahead of the peloton. Rochard, Molard and Dunbar head out together before Kelderman, Rubio and Meurisse track them down. As Meurisse heads out alone, Arensman, Bernard, Martínez, Vansevenant, Vermaerke, and Benoot rejoin the front.

Arensman rejoins Meurisse with 6.8 kilometres to climb. Moments later, the peloton overhauls them, and Tadej Pogacar doesn’t dilly-dally and attacks. He is alone.

The World Champion reaches the summit 1 minute ahead of Lennert Van Eetvelt, Enric Mas, and Remco Evenepoel. The Olympic Champion goes solo on the descent. He does not close in, but he manages to distance Mas and Van Eetvelt. Those two are accompanied by Sivakov before Giulio Ciccone also makes it across on the San Fermo della Battaglia. The Italian then sets out alone.

Meanwhile, Pogacar solos to an uncontested victory, his fourth consecutive win in Il Lombardia. Evenepoel finishes in second place, Ciccone in third.
