Tour of California 2014: Chaves wins Queens stage, Wiggins still in lead
The 6th stage in the Tour of California leads from Santa Clarita to the top of Mountain High, a hors category climb in 24 kilometres long. On the slopes 24-year old Colombian Johan Esteban Chavez leaves his fellows escapees behind and soloes to victory. (Slideshow route/profile)
A group of 6 riders – with homerider Tom Danielson – is up front during the whole day. Their gain goes down on the closing climb, but Danielson, De la Cruz and Chavez survive. When the last one dances away from his fellow escapees in the last 5 kilometres no one is able to react.
In the bunch with GC men Wiggins is having a hard time, but he manages to cling on and eventually gains 2 seconds.
