Race report
Abram Stockman attacks from the gun. His team mate Joren Bloem rejoins him before Kamil Malecki makes it three at the front. They open up a lead of almost 3 minutes – and, that’s it.
Around the midway marker the attack is history and then Stockmann gives it another go with Danny van der Tuuk, Jack Rootkin-Gray, William Tidball and Hartthijs de Vries. The five open up a lead of more than 1 minute.
Stockman and De Vries are the last riders to be reeled in inside the last 14 kilometres. A late attack by Dimitri Peyskens is neutralised with 3 kilometres to go.
Van Aert leads out Kooij, but Gudmestad comes storming past the winning tandem in the last few hundred metres. Vernon pinpoints the Norwegian and he is heading for victory until Van Poppel outguns him with an ultimate dash to the line.
Van Aert stays in the lead of the general classification.
