Race report
Being badly bruised after yesterday’s crash, leader Patrick Bevin can’t follow the pace on the first ascent of Willunga Hill. So that leaves title defender Daryl Impey as the virtual leader.
Wout Poels is the first to attack on the final climb up Willunga Hill. He distances the others, but Richie Porte reponds within the last 500 metres. He gobbles up the Dutchman and goes alone. Behind them, Daryl Impey paces his efforts smartly to keep sight of the two.
Willunga Hill levels out a bit in the final few hundred meters and that’s where Impey comes clawing back to Porte and Poels. He doesn’t catch them though. Porte takes Willunga Hill for the second consecutive year as Impey takes the Tour Down Under. Poels rounds out the podium.
