Race report
Matthias Reutimann is the first attacker. Quinn Simmons, Stefan Bissegger and Manuele Boaro rejoin him and moments later Philippe Gilbert and Joe Rosskopf track him down as well. The six open up a 3.30 minutes gap before the peloton takes the reins.
The gap has fallen to 1.30 minutes with 40 kilometres remaining. Which inspires Bissegger and Simmons to head out together. On the summit they are with four, as Gilbert and Rosskopf are back.
Bissegger strikes again just before descending towards the finishing circuit. He crosses the line with a lead of 40 seconds over his former companions, while the peloton is 1.10 minutes in arrears.
Bissegger’s solo is over with 11 kilometres remaining before a crash takes down Schachmann, second on GC, inside the last 5 kilometres.
The race comes down to a sprint with Sagan taking the spoils. The former World Champion takes his first win in 2022, pipping Bryan Coquard.
Stephen Williams still leads the Tour de Suisse.
