Each lap features two short climbs. The first is 3.4 kilometres long and the average gradient sits at 4.8%, while the second is 400 metres longer and somewhat steeper: 5.6%. But the route is not entirely flat before and after these uphills either. One could argue that the 1st stage takes place on an undulating parcours with two steeper sections.
The finish is situated almost 4 kilometres after that 3.8 kilometres climb. The first part goes false flat up, the second false flat down to the line in Küsnacht.
The first three riders on the line gain time bonuses of 10, 6 and 4 seconds, while the intermediate sprints come with 3, 2 en 1 seconds.
