Last year, stage 2 in the Tour de Suisse was held on a similar course around Baar. The race ended with a bunch sprint that was won by Peter Sagan ahead of Maximiliano Richeze and Michael Matthews.
The route of the 2nd stage in 2017 takes in four laps of 43.6 kilometres, albeit the first 1.5 kilometres run through the neutral zone. Each round takes in the climb up to Horben. On the whole it’s a gentle ascent, albeit the last 2 kilometres rise at 8.8%. When cresting it’s 22.8 kilometres left to the (passage on the) line. The first 16.3 kilometres are in descent, the other 6.5 kilometres mainly on flat roads.
The first three riders on the line take time bonuses of 10, 6 and 4 seconds, while the three intermediate sprints (after 77.7, 121.3 and 164.9 kilometres) come with 3, 2 and 1 seconds.
