Like Risch-Rotkreuz last year, Baar hosts the first two day of the Tour de Suisse. This is deliberate decision by the organization to protect the riders from too much straining transfers.
Straight after the start the riders climb up to Allenwinden, a village that was in last year’s stage 2 also. The first 3.6 kilometres go up at a 6% grade, after which rolling roads continue for 6,5 kilometres at 1.7%.
The first passage in Baar is with 47.6 kilometres done. The hilly circuit is to be raced four times. The stage concludes with a 11.8 kilometres section from the foot of the last drop to the finish line.
Last year Kristijan Durasek took stage 2. After a steep climb a group of nine riders were in the lead and the Croat escaped in the final kilometres to solo to victory. Leader Tom Dumoulin cemented his lead as he was in the first group also.
Baar is home to F1-pilots Sebastian Vettel and Kimi Räikkönen.
At the line, time bonuses at 10, 6 and 4 seconds lay waiting, while intermediate sprints come with 3, 2 and 1 seconds each.
