Race Report
A breakaway features twelve riders. Diego Rosa, Jonas Vingegaard, Alexis Gougeard, Maciej Bodnar, Chad Haga, Eros Capecchi, Harm Vanhoucke, William Bonnet, Manuele Mori, Lukasz Owsian, Simon Pellaud and Patrick Schelling race to a lead of more than 3 minutes before they are reeled in on the last climb. Leader Jan Tratnik can’t follow the pace on the final ascent.
Buchmann, Zoidl and Badilatti sneak away, while the German is the only rider to push on. Thomas goes after him on a false flat incline and Woods and Gaudu join him inside the last 11 kilometres. The three track down Buchmann, but a little later a reduced peloton brings them back.
Zakarin attacks 2.5 kilometres before the line and Thomas bridges across to drop him before the flamme rouge. Betancur jumps across, but the group overhauls the duo on the final straight. Roglic sprints to victory ahead of Gaudu and Costa.
