With Fuglsang, Schachmann and Evenepoel lined-up, the Tour de Pologne hosts three winners of the few races that took place at the beginning of this year. The Dane was outstanding in the Ruta del Sol, Schachmann won Paris-Nice and Evenepoel turned out on the top in the Vuelta a San Juan, the Volta ao Algarve, and, recently, the Vuelta a Burgos.
In terms of the overall triumph the Tour de Pologne will probably come down to the 4th stage. This race features three 48.5 kilometres laps with a lot of steep slopes. For instance, the finish climb is 1.5 kilometres long while its average gradient sits at 11%.
Also, stage 3 serves a considerable elevation gain. But a GC battle is unlikely to ignite since this race finishes on an undulating circuit. The other three stages are tailor-made for fast finishers.
As said, young Remco Evenepoel was on fire in last week’s Vuelta a Burgos. In a strong field he triumphed in the mountain stage to Picón Blanco and he also won the overall classification. Which is all the more interesting since Carapaz and Yates (Simon) were als competing. As they will be in the upcoming Giro d’Italia…
