The last three winners of a Tour stage in Valence were Mark Cavendish (2021), Peter Sagan (2018), and André Greipel (2015). Three sprinters, so it’s pretty likely we’ll see another fast guy snatch the win in the town by the Rhône.
After starting in Bollène, the route runs through the Rhône Valley and is mostly flat. Just before the halfway mark, the riders tackle the Col de Boutière, but it’s hardly a challenge at 5.7 kilometres with an average gradient of 3.3%. The same goes for the Col de Tartaigiuille, which serves up 4.3 kilometres at 3.9% and comes just over 40 kilometres from the finish.
In fact, the only thing that could get in the way of a bunch sprint is the wind. It can blow quite fiercely in this part of France.
