Sometimes, the riders are tested after a rest day, but this time they are offered a gentle way to get back into action. The sprinters and their teams will be the only ones with big plans for the race around Toulouse.
There’s a catch, though, as the route is not entirely flat. The Côte de Castelnau-d’Estrétefonds (1.5-kilometre at 6%) won’t do any harm, as it appears early on, but the Côte de Vieille-Tououse may pose a slightly bigger challenge as the 1.5-kilometre hill at 6.7% is crested with 14 kilometres to go. Moreover, the Montée Pech David follows promptly with 900 metres at 9.1%.
The riders then fly downhill for a flat 7-kilometre run-in to the finish line on Boulevard Lascrosses.
The Tour de France last visited Toulouse in 2019. Back then, Caleb Ewan outgunned Dylan Groenewegen in a photo-finish sprint.
