Raceverslag
Initially, there is no enthusiasm to establish a breakaway. Then Jonas Abrahamsen leaves with his team mate Johannes Kulset. The two stop their efforts after 15 kilometres to wait for the peloton.

The pack remains bunched until Fabien Grellier goes solo with 65 kilometres left to race. He opens up a lead of almost 1 minute.

Just inside the last 29 kilometres, the only attacker of the day is caught.

World champion Mathieu van der Poel punctures with 6 kilometres left, so he is unable to lead out Jasper Philipsen. Moreover, last year’s green jersey winner crashes inside the last 3 kilometres.

Biniam Girmay erupts as the surprise stage winner in the ensuing sprint. Equally surprising is Fernando Gaviria’s second place, while Belgian champion Arnaud De Lie flashes across the line in third.

Richard Carapaz comes home in the fourteenth position, which is enough to take the yellow jersey from Tadej Pogacar. The Slovenian is now second with the same time, while Remco Evenepoel and Jonas Vingegaard, also on equal time, are third and fourth.
