Race report
In the run-up to the Col de Braus a huge group distances the peloton. Wilco Kelderman, Enric Mas, and Clément Champoussin are on board. As they are brought back, Kelderman gives it another go with Armirail. Mas tracks them down, and heads out alone in the last 2 kilometres of the climb. Armirail and Kelderman regain contact later.

Jan Tratnik, Marc Soler, Richard Carapaz, Clément Champoussin, and Romain Bardet attack from the peloton in the descent. Champoussin loses contact on the Col de Turini, and the others rejoin the front with 9 kilometres to climb. Jasper Stuyven, Kevin Geniets, and Tobias Halland Johannessen make the junction just before the summit.

Carapaz takes most KOM points at the Turini.

The lead group puts a maximum of 4.30 minutes into the peloton, while the gap falls below 3 minutes on the Col de la Colmiane. Carapaz seals the KOM victory at the summit.

Mas attacks from the lead group within the last 12 kilometres of the finishing climb. Carapaz follows the move, and Bardet comes clawing back, but is distanced again as Carapaz accelerates.

Meanwhile, Soudal-QuickStep sets a fast pace in the GC group. Only Tadej Pogacar, Jonas Vingegaard, Remco Evenepoel, João Almeida, Matteo Jorgenson remain in Mikel Landa’s wheel.

The Basque rider is dropped as Evenepoel tries to shake off his rivals. Then it’s Almeida who takes the helm in the elite group. Jorgenson loses contact.

Vingegaard counters a new Evenepoel attack. Only Pogacar is able to follow the move. The two rejoin Carapaz and Mas with 2.5 kilometres to go.

Vingegaard sets the pace and Mas is distanced. Carapaz also loses contact in the last kilometre.

The Tour winners of the last four editions ride together to the line. Pogacar takes the lead and powers away in the last 150 meters. He opens up such a gap that he crosses the line 7 seconds ahead of the outgoing champion.
