Race report
Stefan Küng attacks from the gun, and Sandy Dujardin rejoins him. The attack doesn’t last very long. Küng is the first to stop his efforts, and then Dujardin does the same.
There is no notable movement until the intermediate sprint. Then Thomas Gachignard heads out alone. The 23-year old Frenchman opens up a maximum lead of over 2 minutes. With over 20 kilometres remaining, his effort is history.
Green jersey Biniam Girmay misses a turn in one of the roundabouts in the finale and he doesn’t get to sprint. Jasper Philipsen, on the other hand, is perfectly led out by Mathieu van der Poel. Last year’s green jersey winner powers to his third win in this edition, besting Phil Bauhaus and Alexander Kristoff.
The GC remains unchanged with Tadej Pogacar solid in yellow.
