Race report
After 44 kilometres of hard racing Thibaut Pinot, Warren Barguil, Lennard Kämna, Bob Jungels, Simon Geschke, Jasper Stuyven, Rigoberto Uran, Jonathan Castroviejo, Joe Dombrowski, Hugo Houle, Guy Niv, Patrick Konrad, Franck Bonnamour, Carlos Verona and Luis León Sánchez jump off the front. Wout van Aert, Brandon McNulty, Benoît Cosnefroy, Nils Politt, Ion Izagirre, Edvald Boasson Hagen and Pierre Latour bridge across. Boasson Hagen drops back and the 21 others open a gap of more than 3 minutes.

The gap falls to 2 minutes on the Col de la Croix. Bob Jungels counters a Pierre Latour attack in the last 3 kilometres of the climb. Geschke rejoins the Luxembourger and they reach the summit 27 seconds ahead of their former companions.

Jungels leaves Gescke behind on descent and he tackles de Pas de Morgins ahead of the first chasers. While Martínez and Vlasov can’t follow the pace in the GC group, Pinot goes halfway up the climb after the lone attacker. He reaches the summit 20 seconds after Jungels. Castroviejo and Verona are 50 seconds in arrears.

Jungels powers on to win his first Tour de France stage in his career. Castroviejo and Verona overhaul Pinot in the last kilometre before the Ineos-rider sprints to second place.

Yellow jersey Pogacar puts pressure on his rivals on the home straight. Only Vingegaard matches the move, the others lose 3 seconds.
