Race report
Asgreen and De Gendt are the first attackers at kilometre 5. It comes together and no rider seems to be willing to go after that.
Bennett wins the intermediate sprint to move into the virtual lead of the points classification.
The riders up the pace after the first climb, Col de Serre Colon – already 130 kilometres into the race. Yet, the peloton stays bunched until the finale, although a number of riders lose contact on the false flat leading into Privas.
Team Sunweb delivers a perfect lead out for Cees Bol, but Wout van Aert overhauls him in the dying metres to take the stage win. Sam Bennett bests Peter Sagan for third place in their battle for the green jersey.
Adam Yates moves into the GC lead because leader Julian Alaphilippe is penalised for an illegal feed in the final 20 kilometres. The Frenchman drops to sixteenth place overall.
