Race report
Once the flag is dropped Kristjian Durasek, Luis Angel Maté, Anthony Delaplace, Brice Feillu and Daniel Teklehaimanot are off. The latter is the first to crest Côte de Canapville, after 12.5 km’s the only categrized col of the day, and he thus cements his KOM lead. The gap widens to over 4 minutes and then the teams of the fast men take control. The advantage lingers at 2 minutes, so no sweat for the pack.
Teklehaimanot is the first to be reeled in, while Feillu and Maté are the toughest and they are brought back with 11 km’s left.
In the finale Mark Cavendish says hello (and fuck you) to his criticasters. He outsprints Greipel en Sagan in the first real bunch sprint of the 2015 Tour. He thus takes his 26th stage win in the Tour de France, closing in on Bernard HInault (28) and Eddy Merckx (34).
