Race report
After a flurry of attacks, Michal Paluta, Alexis Brunel, Ivan Centrone and Martin Salmon make it into the breakaway. The quartet races to a lead of almost 3 minutes before the peloton takes them on a leash.

Paluta goes alone with 16 kilometres remaning, while his team mate Zimmermann bridges across to him with Salmon in his wheel. Zimmermann pushes on, still with Salmon as his shadow.

It all comes together inside the last 10 kilometres.

Primoz Roglic speeds up on a modest climb in the finale. The peloton strings out and pure sprinters are dropped.

Tom Dumoulin leads-out Roglic on the uphill home straight before Andrea Bagioli gets the better of the Slovenian champion with an ultimate jump.

The 21-year old Italian is the first GC leader.
