Tour Colombia 2020 Route stage 3: Paipa – Sogamoso
Thursday 13 February - The 3rd stage on the Tour Colombia amounts to 177.7 kilometres. Following a hilly first part the last 40 kilometres are virtually flat.
The race is the second longest of the 2020 edition of Tour Colombia. The route moves through central Colombia in the Boyacá Department.
As almost all stages on this year’s Tour Colombia, the riders clip into their pedals in Paipa, birthplace of stage 2’s winner Sebastián Molano. Following a flat opener the route gets more lumpy after 25 kilometres and continues to go either up or down for 75 kilometres. The race moves through Nairo Quintana’s home town Tunja before tackling the Alto del Moral for the first time. The riders descend to the foot of the Alto Tierra Negra and crest the top after some 60 kilometres.
The riders are back at the base of the Tierra Negra climb a little later, only to tackle the ascent again on the side that they just came down. In a similar vein they continue onto the Alto del Moral for the second time.
Following a section of 30 to 40 kilometres on undulating terrain the race continues towards a flat finale in Sogamoso.
The first three riders on the line gain time bonuses of 10, 6 and 4 seconds, while three intermediate sprints (at kilometre 40, 110 and 160) come with 3, 2 and 1 seconds each.
