The riders roll down the start ramp in Lido di Camaiore to storm in northerly direction to Marina di Pietrasanta. The turning point lies at kilometre 5 and the riders along the same straight road that they came.
The intermediate time check is also taken at kilometre 5.
The route is a copy of last year’s opening ITT, but 2.4 kilometres shorter, which was won by Filippo Ganna. Remco Evenepoel finished in second, Tadej Pogacar in third – respectively 11 and 18 seconds behind.
Until 2021 the Tirreno concluded with an ITT on a similar course in San Benedetto del Tronto. Recent winners on that course were Wout van Aert (2021), Filippo Ganna (2020), Victor Campenaerts (2019), and Rohan Dennis (2018, 2017).
