Malori won ahead of the top three time trialists in the world, Cancellara, Wiggins and Martin. The Italian is a strong time-trialist having been Italian champion in 2011 but this is a huge result as he powered around the 9.1 kilometre course.
Contador was 29th on the day, 2 seconds behind Quintana so will need to improve in the discipline before the Tour de France. His overall lead was never in doubt however with those 2 great stage victories putting him back in the spotlight as possible threat to Froome in July.
