Race report
Toms Skujins, Oscar Riesebeek, Cristián Rodríguez, Logan Currie, Fransisco Munoz and Anders Holland Johannessen jump away from the front in the run-up to the first sterrato. But they are brought back on the gravel.

Half an hour later, Anders Halland Johannessen gives it another go, this time with Mark Donovan, Lawson Craddock, Dion Smith and Nils Brun. The five open up a gap of 2.30 minutes, while Brun is the first to lose contact due to a puncture. Craddock ruefully follows his example before the other three are caught halfway through the race the break is almost caught.

Quinn Simmons and Magnus Cort are the next attackers, but their attempt doesn’t last. But the American Champion gives it another go and he enters the Monte Sant Marie sterrato 15 seconds ahead of the main group.

He is caught on the sector and then Tadej Pogacar kicks away from the field, with still 80 kilometres left to race. Maxim Van Gils sets off in pursuit, but he is distanced brutally. While Van Gils waits for the peloton, Pogacar carves out a lead of 4 minutes.

Maxim Van Gils attacks from the chase group in the first Le Tolfe climb, while Toms Skujins goes after him. The Latvian tracks the Flemish rider down on the Montechiaro sterrato. The two reach the chapel in Le Tolfe 3 minutes behind the sole leader, while the fourth rider on the road is 4.30 minutes in arrears.

Pogacar rides to an impressive victory, his second ever win in Strade Bianche. One more to go and he equals record holder Fabian Cancellara.

Skujins drops Van Gils in the last uphill section before the Piazza del Campo and the Latvian finishes as the best of the rest.
