Ruta del Sol 2024 Route stage 1: Alcaudete - Alcaudete

Ruta del Sol 2024Friday 16 February - Following two cancelled stages, the Ruta del Sol kicks off with an idividual time trial in Alcaudete. The 5 kilometres route climbs almost from start to finish, albeit at shallow gradients, while the last 500 metres rise on a on a narrow and cobbled road towards Alcaudete Castle.

The route clims from the start at approximately 6% for about 2 kilometres. The course then evens out and goes downhill fo a bit before reaching Alcaudete on a false flat section. The lion’s share of the race takes place on a so called Via Verde; it follows a former railway line.

Upon reaching Alcaudete, the riders take a sharp turn to the left and continue towards Alcaudete Castle. This part is 500 metres long and rises – first false flat, then at 6% – on a narrow and cobbled road. Dating back to Moorish times, the castle is one of the best restored strongholds in Spain.

Alessandro De Marchi holds fond memories of Alcaudete, as he won his first Vuelta stage there ten years ago.
