Edition 62 of the Ruta del Sol was won by Alejandro Valverde after a brave show of power in the Queen Stage on the last day. Being 22 seconds down in GC, the 35-year old attacked on the 14.5 kilometres closing climb up Alto Peñas Blancas to power to the stage win. Leader Tejay van Garderen couldn’t cope and finished second, while Bauke Mollema was the third rider on the podium after finishing second place in the Queen Stage. (Slideshow route/profile)
