Route d’Occitanie 2020 Route stage 1: Saint-Affrique – Cazouls-lès-Béziers

Route d'Occitanie 2020Saturday 1 August - The 1st stage of the Route d'Occitanie is a 187 kilometres race with an elevation gain of 2.469 metres. The hardest climbs are situated in the first half of the route, while the finale is played out on an undulating circuit of 35 kilometres.

The route goes either up or down, but two climbs stick out. The Col d’Hôpital is a climb of 8.7 kilometres with an average inclination of 5.2%, while the Col des Très Vents is shorter (3.6 kilometres), but steeper (6.7%). The ascents are perfect for the breakaway to open up a gap.

After cresting the Col des Très Vents the race has reached its midway marker. The riders descend onto an undulating section to enter the finishing circuit with 44 kilometres to go. The first passage on the line is 9 kilometres later before the final lap is tackled just once.

The intermediate sprints – at kilometre 50 and kilometre 152 – come with 3, 2 and 1 seconds each, while time bonuses of 10, 6 and 4 seconds are awarded to the first three riders on the line.
