Race report
It takes about 30 kilometres before Quinty Ton and Aurela Nerlo launch the first serious attack. They build up a maximum lead of around 3 minutes.
With just over 70 kilometres remaining, only half of that advantage is left when Ellen van Dijk sets off in solo pursuit. About 10 kilometres later, she reels the two in. Ton latches onto her, while Nerlo is dropped.
Ton can’t keep up with the pace either, as Lotte Kopecky and Lorena Wiebes close in on the lone attacker on secteur 12. Marianne Vos also bridges the gap.
As they approach Mons-en-Pévèle, Chloé Dygert, Alison Jackson, Romy Kasper, and Jelena Eric make their way to the front. Once on the sector, Kopecky accelerates, with Vos following her like a shadow.
Back on the tarmac, Dygert closes the gap, with Wiebes, Jackson, and Eric on her wheel. But with little cooperation, a small peloton catches them with 37 kilometres remaining.
Just a few kilometres later, Emma Norsgaard darts off the front, opening up a 40-second gap, as Pauline Ferrand-Prévot sets off in pursuit inside the last 25 kilometres. She catches the Dane and drops her at Camphin-en-Pévèle.
Ferrand-Prévot hits Carrefour de l’Arbre 45 seconds clear of the main group, and she widens the gap on the cobbles. That’s more than enough, with her teammate Vos playing a key role in stalling the chase.
In the final phase, Letizia Borghesi surges clear of the chase group to take second, while Wiebes outsprints Vos for third.
